Engineering Sciences – English B2

This course aims to strengthen students’ English language skills and help them achieve B2 level proficiency.

Syllabus:

GRAMMAR:

- Present and past tenses: Present Simple, Present Continuous, Past Simple, Past Continuous, Present Perfect Simple and Continuous, Past Perfect Simple and Continuous, Used to, be/get used to, Would   - Verb Patterns (-ing / to)   - Future forms: Will, Be going to , Present Continuous, Present Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect, Future in the Past   - The Passive: Personal and impersonal, Double object   - Relative Clauses: Defining, Non-defining   - Clauses of Contrast   - Clauses of Purpose   - Conditionals: Zero, First, Second, Third, Mixed (2+3, 3+2), Wish, Would rather, If only, it’s time   - Modal Verbs: Obligation, Possibility, Speculation  

VOCABULARY:   Culture Exchange Travel  Tourism Personality Adjectives  Prepositional Collocations Business Technology Cultural Events Evolution and Environment Creativity Identity and Communication Linkers - Understanding the main idea and specific details in texts  

SKILLS:   - Recognizing opinions, attitudes, tone, and implied meaning   - Skimming and scanning for information   - Completing tasks such as: Multiple-choice cloze, Open cloze, Word formation , Key word transformations   

Exam:   The exam will be the same for both attending and non-attending students. It will consist in a written test assessing the student's language skills in grammar, vocabulary, and reading. The types of exercises included are divided as follows: 

Grammar and Vocabulary: Multiple Choice, Fill in the Gaps, True/False, Open Cloze, Word Formation, Key Word Transformations, grammar exercises on specific grammar structures (choosing the most appropriate future tense, transforming active sentences into passive ones etc).  

Reading and Comprehension: Multiple Choice, Gapped Text, Multiple Matching  

Exam sessions:   Students will be allowed to sit the exam in: January, February, June, July, August, September
