Programme Russian Language:

LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the course the student possesses the basic knowledge (level A1-) of Russian grammar and a minimum linguistic competence both oral and written to satisfy his/her elementary communication needs in a limited number of everyday life situations. Understanding of both informative and descriptive oral and written texts, textual analysis: grammatical constructions, key information. Understanding and use of frequent expressions relating to areas of immediate need. Ability to introduce oneself and others, to ask questions and give personal details relating to the place where one lives, works, or studies; ability to provide information about friends and colleagues and objects. Use of greetings, thanks, and apologies. Use of adverbs of time and place. Can handle simple and direct exchange of information. Ability to summarize and communicate knowledge acquired, interpret data, and express one's opinion.

Russian language course includes an articulated language teaching program, a module dedicated to specific syntactic-morphological aspects of the Russian language (concept of time and space), understanding of written texts, and development of oral communication skills on topical issues. Introduction to Russian Phonetics. Cyrillic alphabet. Reading printed letters of the Cyrillic alphabet. Groups of vowels; consonants: hard and soft; stressed and unstressed syllables; intonation. The course includes the study of elementary morphology: genders of nouns and adjectives; Russian cases: meaning and use (Nominative, Prepositional, Genitive, Accusative, Dative, Instrumental), singular and plural forms of nouns; personal and possessive pronouns; full form of descriptive adjectives; tenses of verbs (present, past, future), imperfective aspect of verbs, verbs of motion without prefixes; cardinal numerals, adverbs of manner, place, time of action; prepositions. Personal information; high-frequency words and simple instructions. Extraction of factual information (topic, essence, intention) from short dialogues and monologues.

 

An additional program will be offered for students with Russian language level A2/B1/B2 according to academic needs.

A program of teaching Russian as a foreign language at the A1 level will be offered for Russian-speaking students.

 

The final exam will be an oral test, during which the students' ability to find their way within the institutional part of their competency: knowledge of the basic morphological structures, ability to understand oral communication and a written text, where the structures studied during the course are used.
