Reading of Alcman's “ Parthenia” (frr. 1 and 3 Davies) in their performative and ritual context. After a brief introduction to the choral lyric, the possible contexts and possible opportunities for performance of Alcman's "Partenia" will be illustrated. A detailed reading of the two compositions will follow. In addition to the fr. 1 and 3 Davies, which are the subject of the course, the program includes the reading (non-metric) and translation of the following fragments and poems: Alcman frr. 17, 26, 56, 89 Davies; Pindar, “ Olympian”  I; Bacchylides 17 = “ Dithyrambos”  III Maehler.

The exam will focus on what is illustrated in the class, on the ability to translate the texts in the program, and on the demonstration of having solid notions of literary history . The exam is oral and consists of an interview in which the teacher, through a series of questions, will verify the theoretical knowledge and the theoretical-practical methodologies presented in class. Moreover, he will verify the solidity of the acquired notions and their reference to a general framework. In particular, students will be invited to read the texts read in class, and to comment on them. The translation capacity will also be tested by means of other Greek texts in the program. The teacher will also control the possession of notions of literary history. The exam evaluates the overall preparation of the student, the ability to integrate the knowledge of the different parts of the program, the consequentiality of the reasoning, the analytical ability and the autonomy of judgment. Furthermore, language properties and clarity of presentation are evaluated, in accordance with the Dublin descriptors: 1. Knowledge and understanding; 2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding; 3. Making judgments; 4. Learning skills; 5: Communication skills. The final grade will be related for 70% to the level of knowledge and 30% to the expressive ability and autonomous judgment demonstrated by the student. The exam will be assessed according to the following criteria: Not suitable: important deficiencies and / or inaccuracies in the knowledge and understanding of the topics; limited capacity for analysis and synthesis, frequent generalizations and limited critical and judgment skills, the arguments are presented in an inconsistent way and with inappropriate language, 18-20: just sufficient knowledge and understanding of the topics with possible generalizations and imperfections; sufficient capacity for analysis, synthesis and autonomy of judgment, the topics are frequently presented in an inconsistent way and with inappropriate and non-technical language, 21-23: Routine knowledge and understanding of topics; Ability to correct analysis and synthesis with sufficiently coherent logical argument and appropriate / technical language 24-26: Fair knowledge and understanding of the topics; good analysis and synthesis skills with rigorously expressed arguments but with a language that is not always appropriate / technical. 27-29: Complete knowledge and understanding of the topics; remarkable abilities of analysis and synthesis. Good autonomy of judgment. Topics exposed rigorously and with appropriate / technical language 30-30L: Excellent level of knowledge and in-depth understanding of the topics. Excellent skills of analysis, synthesis and autonomy of judgment. Arguments expressed in an original way and with appropriate technical language.
