GUIDELINES FOR ORAL PROJECTS FOR THE PORTFOLIO

 2ND YEAR  LINFO : SEMESTER 2

Students should complete 3 oral projects in the 2nd semester. You can choose 3 from the 4 outlined below . These projects should be presented at the end of February at the end of March and the end of April. 

  3 PROJECTS

The projects should be your opportunity to investigate an aspect our culture and society. You should narrow your topic to one aspect and research it as thoroughly as you can. Analyse rather than describe.

1) Research and prepare the projects according to the instructions on each project.

2)The project should be presented in a PowerPoint format.

3)Use the key language and structure outlined in Unit 11 page 119 on formal  presentations  ( newspaper articles/ text books/ scientific articles). 4)Use a minimum of 6 sources

5) Print out your presentation and place it in your Portfolio

5) Print out all chapters or articles that you have read and attach them to the project

FORMAT

·         10 slides per  project

·         Bullet point format in the slides

·         6 points per slide

·         6 words per point

·         Each presentation should have

1) An introduction explaining what you are about to analyse

2)the development of your topic in the central slides

3) A penultimate slide with your conclusions

4) A final slide indicating a short bibliography of your sources

5) you can illustrate your project with images, charts, tables and film

 

PROJECT 1

ENVIRONMENT

 Choose any one aspect of the  topic Environment in unit 2 such as:

1) Disasters and Government response e.g. L’Aquila, Liguria, Fukoshima

2) policies for dealing with waste disposal in Italy

3) a strategy for preventing  global warming

Your presentation should be based on a critical analysis of the chosen  topic. Using a SWOT analysis (see below) examine an issue and make recommendations and draw a conclusion.

PROJECT 2

GLOBALIZATION

Choose ONE aspect e.g. a geographical area, a product, a group of workers which has been affected by  GLOBALIZATION (Unit8) and analyse the ISSUE. Has globalization been positive or negative in terms of  employment, workers’ rights, skills, the impact on the area, the region, the country, the environment, the product, consumer choice, prices, the future?  Write a report, your findings should be supported by data and statistics (Unit 4). Your report should be divided into 4 parts – (see page 47 Student’s book for example of a model report)

PRO JECT 3

 ART AND LITERATURE

Choose two works of art from a similar genre e.g. two 19th century novels, two horror films,  two Renaissance paintings and write a critical analysis comparing the two.  (Units 6&9) Your analysis should refer to:

·                                        Y the differences and similarities between the two works of art  in terms of vision, influences, style, technique and innovation

·                                         their good qualities and defects

·                                        Their influence on later generations

 

PROJECT 4

TECHNOLOGY

Write a critical analysis explaining the advantages and disadvantages (Unit 3.5) of  ONE type of  social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Blogging. (Unit 12) .  Analyse these media in terms of:

·                                        Socialization

·                                        Marketing of products

·                                        Social and Political influence

·                                        Information

Illustrate your analysis with data statistics and examples.
