The computer games industry is in the middle of a dramatic and somewhat painful reinvention from retailed packaged products to online services. What does this mean for game creators, developers and publishers, where will the opportunities lie and what are some of the challenges ahead. From the refreshing perspective of someone who doesn’t have a product, service or hardware platform to promote Phil Harrison will share some thoughts on the future of the industry and where we’re headed, hopefully stimulating debate among the audience. The session will conclude with a questions and answers session.

Today video games are widely recognized as cultural products. Video games are at the heart of digital culture and during past five years video games have made their way from margins to mainstream of culture.
Despite of this positive development in the market the present situation is not all good to European Game Developers. In order to keep European game development as vibrant and creative as it has been previous years, some measureses are needed: funding towards games industry should be significantly improved both European and national levels.
In order to convince both EU and their national governments, European game developes have to co-operate. Only European co-operation can create productive environment for European game developers to work also in the coming years. We defenately need European games and only European game developers can make European games.

Following on from the ultra successful launch of Kinect, Peter Molyneux will examine the future potential of this industry changing device. Starting with a personal analysis of current titles and then moving on to details of Kinect’s future promise for creating new genres. Peter will demonstrate some of these ideas using prototypes developed at Lionhead Studios and also plans to engage the audience in Kinect’s potentials and pitfalls.
