Bacheca » Exam Instructions

Dear Students of MMS,

Excuse me for providing detailed information only now.

Here follows the instructions for the written test of July 1st at 11:00am.

This test will be given on the Zoom platform (https://zoom.us). The link and the information to join the meeting will be given on Teams and on the Didatticaweb website by the day before the exam. Students are invited to familiarize with the zoom app before the exam.

The day of the written test, July 1st, the Zoom meeting will start at 10:15am to have enough time to check the test set up of every student, including the position of the camera.

During the written test we will follow the instruction from the Tor Vergata administration, which are available here

https://web.uniroma2.it/module/name/Content/action/showpage/content_id/83741

except for the fact that we will use Zoom and not Microsoft Teams.

In case of irregularities noticed by the instructor with respect to a student during the written test, the written test of that student will be invalidated. If the irregularity is due to technical reasons, the oral test of that student will include also the question typically asked during the written test, in addition to two question on the theory, and the duration of the oral test will be lengthened adequately. If the irregularity is actually cheating, the exam of that student will be invalidated.

The written test will be similar to those of the previous years, whose copies have been provided to the students to practice.

As such, the written test is divided into two parts, 80 minutes each part, with a break of 20 minutes in-between. At the end of each part, within maximum 5 minutes after the 80 minutes have elapsed, each student has to scan (for example with the cell phone app Camscanner) the sheets and has to send it by email to the instructors (micheletti@ing.uniroma2.it, artioli@ing.uniroma2.it). Students are invited to familiarize with these operations before the exam.

Each sheet should report first and last name, ID number (numero di matricola), and signature of the student, all of these should be clearly readable in the scan.

The answers to the questions should be boxed indicating the question number (e.g. the answer to question Q2.3 should be boxed writing "Q2.3" next to it. It is possible, but not mandatory, to submit the written computations used to arrive at the answers. The grade of the written test will be based only on the boxed answers, while the additional computation, if any, will be used to discuss the result of the test with the instructors.

Other than paper and pens/pencils and a non-programmable calculator, each student can use a cheat sheet of one page, which can be written on both sides, in A4 or letter format. It is not possible to use books, lecture notes, or other material.

The grade will be computed taking also into account the relevance of mistakes/errors. For example, conceptual mistakes are more relevant than numerical mistakes; to give an answer in wrong physical dimensions is considered to be a relevant mistake (e.g. a couple should be a force times a length, a second-order moment should be a length to the fourth power).

Provisional criteria, subjected to changes, for assigning grades:

A : 100% of correct answers

B : between 80% and 100% of correct answers

C : between 60% and 80% of correct answers

D : between 40% and 60% of correct answers

F : less than 40% of correct answers

Students can sustain the oral test independently of the obtained grade. However, students obtaining C or above will be asked two questions during the oral test; students obtaining D (not sufficient) can sustain the oral test but they can be asked more than two questions; Students obtaining F (fail) are recommended to sustain the written test again on the next available date.

The oral test will be given on July 2, 2020, in a meeting held on the Teams platform, according to the instructions available at this address

http://web.uniroma2.it/module/name/Content/newlang/italiano/action/showpage/navpath/TEA/content_id/82909/section_id/7280

If a student fails the oral test on July 2, while he/she obtained a grade of C or higher at the written test, he/she can take the oral exam again on the second available date ("secondo appello") of the Summer exam session without needing to take the written test again. Students obtaining C or higher may also choose to skip the oral test at "primo appello" and to take directly the oral test at the "secondo appello" of the summer session, or to take the written test again on that "appello" to try improving their grade.

Kind regards,
Andrea Micheletti
