The first part of the article is useful because it has a nice summary of gossip in relation to the internet and some good internet-related terminology in English, which you should note.The second pdf is a fascinating article about how gossip relates to the sex tourist industry and gender construction. It shows how you can study gossip in relation to a community and to social politics. Can you study a social network in this way? It also shows how interesting and illuminating linguistics and ethnography can be.
Please bring the articles on Monday (we may have a guest speaker but I'm not sure). On Wednesday there is no lesson in class but you will be bringing your material and initial ideas for a module A project to my office.
