Generali:

  • Dipartimento: Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche E Naturali
  • Codice di verbalizzazione: 8069021
  • Metodi di insegnamento: Frontale E Altro
  • Metodi di valutazione: Scritto
  • Prerequisiti: Knowledge of basic chemical disciplines
  • Obiettivi: - Standards and safety data sheets in a chemical laboratory; prevention of laboratory risks; PPE, equipment, and safety and emergency signs; - Theoretical aspects of Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, acid-base equilibria (definition of acid and base, fundamental equations for studying chemical equilibria, calculation of the pH of strong and weak acids and bases, buffer solutions), spectroscopic techniques, and chromatographic separations. Application to the analysis of pharmaceutical ingredients, assays to determine their purity, and analysis of pharmaceutical preparations, according to the European Pharmacopoeia. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the course, the student possesses basic knowledge regarding the analyses performed on active pharmaceutical ingredients and preparations. The knowledge acquired will enable the student to face and solve with criticality and independence the tests that are carried out for the characterization and determination of the purity of pharmaceutical components according to the texts of the European Pharmacopoeia; to understand the meaning of analytical data and associated error; to correctly represent an analytical result and to prepare a technical report. The course also provides notions of safety and good laboratory practice through practical experiences in which students will practice the theoretical concepts studied in class. At the end of the laboratory activity, the student will be able to perform the basic operations of an analytical laboratory (preparation of solutions and use of instrumentation, such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, polarimeters, etc.) and correctly report the results of their experiences in technical laboratory reports. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The course aims to enable the student to approach experimental chemical practice correctly. In particular, the course's main objectives are to provide adequate theoretical knowledge and an adequate modus operandi in implementing simple analytical methods for identifying pharmaceutical ingredients and performing assays on pharmaceutical preparations. The fundamental principles of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry will be illustrated in the lectures and put into practice in subsequent laboratory exercises. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The students can demonstrate the knowledge acquired through laboratory tests to recognize pharmaceutical ingredients and determine their purity and content in pharmaceutical preparations. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: The laboratory tests will be focused on making the students autonomous in the operational modalities, in the critical attitude of interpreting the results obtained through a test on different samples. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The presentation of a written report and the subsequent oral discussion should help the student communicate his results with a critical spirit. LEARNING SKILLS: The exam will consist of a written interview to verify the level of knowledge of the topics covered during the frontal lesson. The final grade is expressed in thirtieths and is defined by taking into account the following: - the degree of knowledge acquisition (35% of the score) - the ability to synthesize and correlate the various topics (35% of the score) - The ability to interpret the acquired knowledge (30% of the score).
