  • Obiettivi: The purpose of the course is to: - Provide fundamental concepts of thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling in soils to face enviromental geotechnical issues. - Extend soil mechanics to include partial saturation. - Apply unsaturated soil mechanics to predict settlements induced by water table variations. Explore applications related to thermal piles, offshore foundations, and environmental protection systems. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Enhance knowledge in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, including: - The behaviour of unsaturated soils. - The behaviour of soils under thermal loading. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Develop skills for the design of shallow and deep foundations under unsaturated soil conditions, and design energy geostructures MAKING JUDGEMENTS: Gain the ability to: - Interpret results from laboratory and in-situ tests to characterize the behaviour of soils in unsaturated conditions. - discuss the feasability of energy geostructures COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Acquire technical language relevant to the main aspects of Geotechnical Engineering. LEARNING SKILLS: Achieve a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts in Geotechnical Engineering in the optics of Sustainable Development.
