  • Obiettivi: LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to introduce some key issues of contemporary tourism through concepts, tools and cases from tourism geography and tourism studies. Different practices, actors, policies and types of destinations will be examined with a focus on un/sustainability. In particular, the course will illustrate strategies and cases of un/sustainable tourism in rural contexts and Italian inner areas. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Students will acquire knowledge of tourism geography: they will understand the role of tourism in territorial processes, identify the main actors and possible conflicts between spatial uses and interests, understand the different dimensions of tourism sustainability. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Students will apply the acquired knowledge to analyse contemporary tourism strategies, policies and cases. They will develop solutions to spatial conflicts and be able to develop tourism sustainability strategies in a holistic approach, taking into account economic, environmental and social factors. MAKING JUDGEMENTS The course will help students to evaluate the limitations and opportunities of different tourism products and practices, from mass to niche tourism, from urban overtourism to rural experiential tourism. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Students will be encouraged to improve their communication skills in different contexts. They will acquire technical language related to tourism management and to policy strategies, as well as the ability to illustrate real cases. They will practise public speaking and academic communication. LEARNING SKILLS Students will improve their analytical skills. They will be able to learn from a variety of multimedia sources, including images, TV series, podcasts and social media. They will be able to select and relate different information.
