  • Prerequisiti: Module I PREREQUISITES For an effective comprehension of the course contents the student is expected to know the basic principles of physiology and general pathology. During the lectures, the teacher will always provide the student with enough background information to frame the topic. Students should also possess a good knowledge of written and spoken English (B2 level). PREREQUISITES Prior knowledge and skills in the following subjects: Human Anatomy I, Human Anatomy II, Physiology, Pharmacology, General and Clnica Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Obiettivi: Module I SPECIFIC AIMS AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES General aspects of internal medicine with particular attention to cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies. LEARNING OUTCOMES: The course aims to provide general aspects of internal medicine with particular attention to cardiovascular and metabolic pathologies. Special attention will be given to chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and arterial hypertension. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The student must demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the physiopathology of the internal medicine field and the possible pharmacological treatments for this condition. The student must know the side effects and at the same time the possible drug interactions in these patients. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The student must be able to apply the knowledge acquired during the course to the identification and critical evaluation of the single treatment in these field. The student will also be able to apply the knowledge of internal medicine in order optimize the pharmacological therapy. Moreover, the student will acquire the ability of applying the learned scientific method to the analysis of drugs under clinical evaluation and to the planning and implementation of projects in a research context. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: The student must acquire the ability to integrate the knowledge between the internal medicine and the drugs administration. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Students are expected to speak clearly and fluently in English (level B2) with an appropriate technical language, and to describe the main medical aspects of the patients aforementioned. LEARNING SKILLS: The student are expected to: i) possess the basic multi-disciplinary knowledge for the comprehension of the pharmacological activity in relation to the pathological condition in internal field ; ii) to know the scientific methodology of investigation applied to internal medicine and drugs; ii) to know the clinically relevant examples of internal physiopathology; iv) to develop the ability to keep up to date on these and other drug classes by means of critical reading of scientific articles published in peer-reviewed international journals in the internal medicine field. Frontal lectures and personal study accompanied by in-depth analysis of specific subjects, selected spontaneously or suggested by the teacher, contribute to the achievement of the learning outcomes. The assessment of the achievement of the learning outcomes takes place mainly through oral exams and progress testing and, when feasible, discussions of scientific articles. Module II SPECIFIC AIMS LEARNING OUTCOMES: The course aims to acquire knowledge of the main medical and surgical pathologies affecting the skin organ. The student, using his or her basic knowledge, should gradually be able to independently expand on what he or she has learned and have autonomy of judgment. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Knowledge of major medical and surgical diseases affecting the skin organ. Understand the basic causes of skin diseases in relation to molecular, systemic and clinical aspects. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Know how to provide a diagnosis through clinical reasoning. And be able to differentiate between various skin diseases through the use of different diagnostic methods. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: Identify the fundamental role of correct theoretical knowledge of the subject in clinical practice. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Explain arguments orally in an organized and coherent manner. Use of scientific language appropriate to and in accordance with the topic of discussion. LEARNING SKILLS: Recognize possible applications of skills acquired in the field.
