  • Obiettivi: It is a course integrated between the teachings of Topography of Rome and ancient Italy and that of Methodologies and Techniques of the Archaeological Investigation. Therefore, see the educational. objectives in the forms relating to the two courses. TOPOGRAPHY OF ROME AND ANCIENT ITALY Educational objectives. The course aims at providing the students with the knowledge and the tools which are necessary for an exhaustive knowledge and understanding of: the main archaeological, literal and iconographic sources which are apt to the re-construction of the urban history of ancient Rome; the archaeological remains of Ancient Rome as the basic elements of a multi-stratified urban landscape; the process of implementation and communication of the archaeological assets; Teaching method. Frontal lessons indoor with the support of graphic and photographic tools.Guided visits to the relevant sites, museums and monuments, mainly focused on the management, implementation and communication of the archaeological assets. Final test. The examination will consist in a discussion of about 30 minutes where the candidate will have to show an exhaustive understanding of: the main sources for the re-construction of the Urban History of Rome; the stratification of the urban landscape in a specific area of Rome (Campidoglio, Foro Romano, Palatino etc.); the basic elements of the urban features at a specific time in the Urban History of Rome (The early Monarchic age; the late Republican age; the Augustan age etc.) METHODOLOGIES METHODOLOGIES AND TECHNIQUES OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION The Courses aims at providing the student with an historical outline (from the XVIII century to the present day) of the archaeological theories and methods of investigation. The course also aims at providing a basic understanding of archaeological excavation, of survey on the field, documentation, analysis of material remains and application of scientific techniques. The student must show an exhaustive knowledge: of the history of Archaeology; of the theoretical basis of stratigraphic excavation and survey. He must also show a basic understanding in the field of enhancement and communication of archaeological heritage.Final test: In a discussion of about 30 minutes the candidate must show an exhaustive understanding of theory, technology, method of investigation, analysis and reading of the archaeological remains.
