- Obiettivi: LEARNING OUTCOMES: The objective of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technologies for Space course is to help students to fully manage the innovative technologies in the field of additive manufacturing with respect to space sustainability. Including its post processing and analysis with reference to new technologies applied in different sectors, including space. Specifically, additive production processes will be addressed, with details on the design and printing technologies used, as well as the space sustainability concept and application with AM technologies, the surface modification processes and the surface finishing after additive manufacturing processes, the additive fabrication of composites and cellular materials, with specific activities and laboratory projects. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: After the Additive manufacturing Technologies for Space class, students will enrich and complete their knowledge regarding advanced additive manufacturing techniques and smart materials for next generation industries and space applications. They will also be able to relate the scientific approach of problem solving to additively manufacturing processes issues. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Space course will provide the theoretical and experimental bases on the concept of technological innovation for additive processes and on the engineering of surfaces and advanced materials. All this will allow students to face transversal problems, providing them with the ability to judge problems related to the application and the degree of applicability of these processes and materials in different industrial and research sectors. Thanks to the practices that are focussed on case studies, the students will improve the skills necessary for practical application. The case studies will provide the capability to approach the solution of a problem and critically discuss the results. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: After the Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Space course, the students be able to understand and relate the appropriate advanced material/process to the adequate implementation or analysis, considering technical, economic and environmental issues. The course will provide the basis of scientific and experimental laboratory approach useful to students to be able to solve issues outside the university boundaries both at an industrial production level and at a more advanced research level in areas of interest such as space. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: After the Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Space, through reading scientific articles and practicing with laboratory trials, the students will familiarize with the scientific research approaches, they will have a clear understanding of the state of the art and they will learn how to communicate the results of research activities. LEARNING SKILLS: The Additive Manufacturing Technologies for Space's course will provide students the opportunity to be experimenters and to apply advanced technologies in laboratory experiments supported by an appropriate theoretical knowledge of the topics which will allow them a more in-depth and faster learning of the technologies covered.
