  • Obiettivi: LEARNING OUTCOMES: to acquire theoretical methods and computational skills for optimal control of systems described by ordinary differential equations. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: to know: - controllability and observability criteria for finite-dimensional systems; - existence results and necessary conditions for optimality; - dynamic programming, Hamilton-Jacobi equations, and viscosity solutions. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: - to study controllability of systems by Kalmans method;. - to use Pontryagin Principle to determine optimal pairs; - to apply the method of characteristics and basic set-valued analysis. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: to check that a control problem is correctly modelled and theoretical results are appropriately used. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: to be able to describe in detail and summarise the main notions and results of the theory. LEARNING SKILLS: to be able to distinguish and relate the contents of the course.
