- Obiettivi: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will need to acquire a deep and critical understanding of Baroque art in Rome within its historical, social, and cultural context. They will be able to analyze the distinctive features of Baroque art, such as theatricality, propaganda, rhetoric, and grandeur, and connect them to the political, religious, and cultural developments of the period. During class exercises and group discussions, they will apply this knowledge to explore complex topics such as the contextualization of artworks, the role of patrons, and the critical reception of Baroque art. They are expected to go beyond simple memorization of historical facts by developing analytical and interpretative skills that allow them to formulate original and well-argued interpretations. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will put into practice their knowledge of Baroque art in Rome not only to understand the artworks themselves but also to tackle conceptual and complex issues within broader interdisciplinary and historical-artistic contexts. CRITICAL THINKING: Students will demonstrate their ability to use diverse critical tools to formulate hypotheses, gather and evaluate data, and solve specific problems. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Students will be able to articulate complex concepts precisely and communicate their conclusions and knowledge of Baroque art in Rome clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, demonstrating that they have also acquired specific and technical vocabulary. This specialized vocabulary will not only help them describe in detail the characteristics and techniques of Baroque art but also contextualize the works within the artistic movements and the historical and cultural contexts of the Baroque era in Rome. LEARNING SKILLS: Students will develop the ability to analyze visual language in the context of Baroque art. They will understand art as a means of expression and communication that embodies historical-cultural aspirations, ideals, and values. They will acquire detailed knowledge of the processes underlying artistic production during the Baroque period and a specific vocabulary of the visual arts disciplinary field.
