  • Obiettivi: LEARNING GOALS: The MA in Art History in Rome from Late Antiquity to the Present aims at providing future art history professionals with a solid art history background and advanced methodological skills to approach the study of art production (painting, sculpture, architecture, works of art) and of its cultural significance from the Middle Ages to Contemporary Art, focusing on Rome and its influence, and with special awareness of Classical Antiquity. In this framework, the course on History of Art in 17th-century Rome seeks to provide students with sound knowledge and interpretative tools for understanding how the Baroque era evolved from the Renaissance, and its social, political and religious roots. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will be able to adopt an art-historical topic with sound knowledge and advanced critical consciousness. Such ability will be acquired and developed both by taking active part in the didactic activities and by individual study hours on their own, through textbooks and scholarly literature in English or other EU languages. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will be able to reelaborate the knowledge acquired and develop argumentative skills, set up problems and propose solutions. Such skills will be nurtured and tested all along the course by means of individual oral presentations in class and written tests on specific topics agreed on with the teacher, site visits. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: By taking an active part in the various didactic activities (and thus exchanging ideas with colleagues under their teacher��s supervision) and thanks to work on their own, students will develop analytical and methodological tools, and be able to build independent judgement not only on a specific subject but on broader cultural topics. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Students will be able to communicate what they have learned with coherent, clear and critical language in both written and spoken form. Communication skills will be trained by means of oral presentations, seminars and written papers. LEARNING SKILLS: Due to the structure of the course, which prescribes individual oral and written work on chosen topics and promotes direct contact with works of art, students will develop the learning skills needed for an improved understanding of history.
