The course aims to provide an overview of the Italian and international publishing domain, with particular reference to publishing non-fiction. The scenario on which the course will constantly focus will be that of information and communication for publishing companies, offering some tools for the analysis and a critical reading of the "knowledge society". The publishing market will be analyzed in its fundamental characteristics, starting from the operation of the system of value creation in publishing: areas and types of publications and publishing companies; market goals and construction of the editorial plan, fields of activities, roles and functions of actors in the publishing industry. A particular attention will be devoted to the specific characteristics and potential of digital publishing, analysis of e-commerce platforms to design, publishing and marketing of ebooks and other form (applications, online content, etc..) of digital works.
