The course will offer a first part where the concepts of human geopolitics, politics and Geopolitics will be introduced. Synthetic elements of a geography of the inequalities of the planet will be introduced and then we will focus on a particular continent: Africa. The goal is to understand the African continent as a whole, in its diversity and complexity, in the world scenario. After carrying out a first study on the themes of political geography and geopolitics, elements of socio-political analysis, debunking some " myths " and thus having a clearer overview.
Subsequently the course will focus on some areas of the African continent, most of which revolve around the Sahara and more precisely we will analyze the territorial dimension of the western sub-Saharan area that goes from Senegal / Mauritania, crossing Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. This area will be divided into desert, Sahelian and green areas, where the populations are divided into Nomadic, semi-Nomadic and Sedentary. Another particular attention will be devoted to the Nile basin.
For attending students, a mid-course text and a test at the end of the course will be performed. These are two or three questions with the possibility of an open answer. For each question the student will have 15 to 20 lines of space for the answer. The questions will concern the topics dealt in the part of the course completed.
For non-attending students there will be an oral examination on the indicated texts.
