  • Objectives: LEARNING OUTCOMES: - learning the fundamental principles of he medieval textual criticism; - ability to read and analyse medieval latin texts and to get them in relation to their historical context. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: - ability to read critical editions and their apparatus - ability to recognize the most important features of the medieval hagiography APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: - ability to read and comment a critical apparatus ability to recognize the cultural and transmission-related issues of a hagiographical text - ability to translate a medieval latin text into italian MAKING JUDGEMENTS: - ability to read a medieval latin text and its apparatus - ability to recognize the philological criteria underlaying a critical edition - ability to judge variant readings and forms of a text and their intrinsic merits in the light of the information available COMMUNICATION SKILLS: - ability to describe with a proper terminology the textual transmission of a text LEARNING SKILLS: -ability to use medieval latin dictionaries -ability to search and find bibliography related to medieval hagiography - ability to find out manuscripts and their possible digitization in online databases
