Curriculum vitae di Fabio Gori Ammannati

Fabio Gori nasce a Montale (Pistoia) il 5 Agosto 1947 da Emilio Gori e Cesarina Ammannati. Il 16 Luglio 2021 ha aggiunto il cognome della madre, Ammannati.

Si laurea in Ingegneria Chimica l’11 Novembre 1971. Nel Dicembre del 1971 vince una borsa di studio per giovani laureati nella Facoltà di Ingegneria di Bologna, che svolge dal Gennaio 1972.

Nel 1974 diventa Assistente Ordinario e nel 1982 Professore Associato di Fisica Tecnica nella Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Università di Firenze, dove insegna, anche come Professore a Contratto, fino al 1990. Nel 1978 vince una borsa di studio del BritishCouncil, che svolge presso l’Imperial College di Londra, dove collabora col Prof. D.B. Spalding sul tema dell’analisi numerica nel moto turbolento dei metalli liquidi. Durante la permanenza all’Università di Firenze instaura collaborazioni scientifiche internazionali con: Prof. R. Echigo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan; Prof. D.R. Chaudhary, Department of Physics, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India; Centro Internazionale di Fisica Teorica (ICTP) di Trieste; Centralny Osrodek Techniki Medycznej, Varsavia, Polonia; Prof. T. Aihara, Institute of Fluid Science, Sendai, Japan.

Nel 1986 vince una borsa di studio del CNR che svolge presso Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, dove collabora col Prof. R. Miller sul tema del congelamento del terreno. Nello stesso anno diventa Professore Straordinario nella Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Università di Reggio Calabria.

Nel 1988 è Professor presso la University of New York at Stony Brook, titolare del Corso Introduction to Fluid Dynamics del Semestre autunnale dello stesso anno. Durante la sua permanenza collabora col Prof. T.F. Irvine Jr. sul metodo di misura della conduttività termica con sonda termica e sulla misura del coefficiente di espansione termica isobarica di fluidi non-newtoniani.

Nel 1989 diventa Professore Ordinario di Fisica Tecnica e nel 1990 si trasferisce al Politecnico di Milano dove insegna Fisica Tecnica ed Impianti.

Dal 1992 al 2017 è Professore Ordinario di Fisica Tecnica nella Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata, e dal 2017 è Professore a Contratto. Nel 1994 è proponente del Dottorato di Ricerca in Ingegneria dell’Energia-Ambiente, di cui è Coordinatore fino al 2011. Nel 1995 è proponente e Direttore del Master di Secondo Livello in Termofluidodinamica fino al 2016. Dal 1998 al 2001 è Direttore del Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica. Nel 2001 è proponente e Coordinatore del Programma Master of Science, Energy Engineering and Thermal and Fluid Dynamics, in collaborazione col Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago, che si svolge nell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata ma che rilascia il titolo di Master of Science da parte della stessa Università americana. Dalla fine degli anni 90 è Coordinatore del programma congiunto di Dottorato di Ricerca/Ph. D. col Prof. R.J. Goldstein, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, e coi Prof. J.P. Hartnett, Prof. L. Kennedy, Prof. W. Minkowycz, Prof. W.M. Worek, Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, USA. Dalla metà degli anni 90 è proponente e Direttore del programma Socrates-Erasmus con: Prof. Mayinger, Technical University of Munchen, Germany; Prof. van Steenhoven, Eindhoven Technical University, the Netherlands; Prof. C. Caro, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. Durante la sua permanenza a Tor Vergata instaura collaborazioni scientifiche con: Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, collaborando col Prof. R.J. Goldstein sulla termofluidodinamica e sul trasporto di massa nelle palette delle turbine a gas; Energy Resources Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, collaborando con Prof. J.P. Hartnett, Prof. W. Minkowycz e Prof. W.M. Worek; Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago, Prof. L. Kennedy and Prof. W.M. Worek; Duke University, Prof. A. Bejan; S. Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Prof. W. R. Tarnawski.

La rassegna bibliografica dei documenti e delle citazioni, intitolata Plos Biology Career, lo vede dentro il primo 2% dei ricercatori del settore Mechanical Engineering and Transports. Dal 1992 è Tutor di oltre 30 Tesi di Dottorato di Ricerca; Relatore di oltre 40 Tesi di Master Universitario di Secondo Livello; Relatore di oltre 70 Tesi di Laurea (Quinquennale, Specialistica e Magistrale); Relatore di oltre 10 Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering dell’University of Illinois at Chicago; Relatore di oltre 20 Tesi Erasmus-Socrates. Dall’inizio degli anni 2000 è stato ed è Revisore di Progetti di ricerca internazionale per conto di: Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, FCT; Czech Science Foundation, GACR; European Science Foundation, Strasburgo, Francia, per conto di FCT e Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Georgia.

Dal 2017, anno di pensionamento per raggiunti limiti di età, è Professore a Contratto nell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata, dove nell’A.A. 2025-2026 insegna Fisica Tecnica per il Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Medica.

Il Dottor Salvatore Mangiafico (Firenze), responsabile scientifico del Campo Base NeuroVascolare, 2021, lo ha invitato a tenere una relazione scientifica dal Titolo “L’approccio ingegneristico allo studio del Circolo di Willis”, il giorno 23 Settembre 2021 presso il Centro Congressi, Università di Roma La Sapienza, aprendo così ad una possibile futura collaborazione.

The 40th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, entitled TorVergata40 - FUTURE SIGHT, was organised during the week from 24 to 28 October 2022, https://torvergata40.uniroma2.it. As part of this 40th anniversary, Fabio Gori Ammannati proposed and moderated the meeting, titled Thermo-Haemo-Dynamics (THD) in Medical Engineering and in the Medicine of the future. The meeting saw the participation, as speakers, of Ph.D. Dr. Eng. Andrea Boghi, and Medical Doctors Arturo Consoli, Valerio Da Ros, Salvatore Mangiafico, Enrica Mariano, and Giuseppe Umana, besides the Author/moderator. The discussion was divided into two parts:

Curriculum Vitae of Fabio GoriAmmannati

Fabio Gori was born in Montale (Pistoia) on 5 August 1947 to Emilio Gori and Cesarina Ammannati. On 16 July 2021, he added his mother's surname, Ammannati.

He graduated in Chemical Engineering on 11 November 1971 with honours. In December 1971, he won a scholarship for young graduates at the Faculty of Engineering in Bologna, which he undertook from January 1972. In 1974 he became Assistant Professor and in 1982 Associate Professor of Technical Physics at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence, where he taught, also as a Contract Professor, until 1990. In 1978 he won a scholarship from the British Council, which he carried out at the Imperial College in London, where he collaborated with Prof. D. Brian Spalding on the topic of numerical analysis in the turbulent flow of liquid metals. During his time at the University of Florence, he established international scientific collaborations with: Prof. R. Echigo, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan; Prof. D.R. Chaudhary, Department of Physics, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India; International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste; Centralny Osrodek Techniki Medycznej, Warsaw,  Poland; Prof. T. Aihara, Institute of Fluid Science, Sendai, Japan.

In 1986 he won a CNR scholarship which he carried out at Cornell University , Ithaca, New York, where he collaborated with Prof. R. Miller on the topic of ground freezing. In the same year, he became Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Reggio Calabria. In 1988 he was appointed as Professor at the University of New York at Stony Brook , teaching the Course Introduction to Fluid Dynamics in the Autumn semester of the same year. During his stay, he collaborates with Prof. T.F. Irvine Jr. on the method of measuring thermal conductivity with a thermal probe and on the measurement of the isobaric thermal expansion coefficient of non-Newtonian fluids.

In 1990 he moves to the Milano Polytechnic where he teaches Technical Physics and Systems until 1993.

From 1991 until 1998 he is Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Siena.

From 1992 to 2017 he is Professor of Technical Physics in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, and from 2017 he is a Contract Professor. In 1994, he proposes the Research Doctorate (Italian Ph.D.) in Energy-Environment Engineering, of which he is Coordinator until 2011. In 1995, he proposes and directs the Second Level Master in Thermo-Fluid-Dynamics until 2016. From 1998 to 2001 he is Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 2001, he proposes and coordinates the Programme Master of Science, Energy Engineering and Thermal and Fluid Dynamics, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, which takes place at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” but awards the title of Master of Science from the same American University. Since the late 90s, he is Coordinator of the joint Ph.D. Research Program with Prof. R.J. Goldstein, Department of Mechanical Engineering , University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, and with Prof. J.P. Hartnett, Prof. L. Kennedy, Prof. W. Minkowycz, Prof. W.M. Worek, Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, USA. Since the mid-90s, he proposes and directs the Socrates-Erasmus programme with: Prof. Mayinger, Technical University of Munich, Germany; Prof. van Steenhoven, Eindhoven Technical University, the Netherlands; Prof. C. Bejan ; S. Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Prof. W. R. Tarnawski.

The bibliographic review of documents and citations, titled Plos Biology  Career, places him within the top 2% of researchers in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Transports. Since 1992, he has been a Tutor of over 30 PhD Theses; Supervisor of over 40 Second Level University Master Theses; Supervisor of over 70 Degree Theses (Five-year, Specialist and Master's); Supervisor of over 10 Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago ; Supervisor of over 20 Theses Erasmus-Socrates.

Since the early 2000s, he has been a Reviewer of international research projects on behalf of: Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, FCT; Czech Science Foundation, GARC; European Science Foundation, Strasbourg, France, on behalf of FCT and Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Georgia.

Since 2017, the year of his retirement due to age limits, he is a Contract Professor at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, where in the academic year 2025-2026 he teaches Technical Physics for the Master's Degree Course in Medical Engineering.

M.D. Salvatore Mangiafico (Florence), scientific head of the NeuroVascular Base Camp, 2021, invited him to give a scientific presentation titled "The engineering approach to the study of the Circle of Willis", on 23 September 2021 at the Congress Centre, University of Rome La Sapienza.
